The Lesson Flow

This is the step-by-step guide for conducting the lesson. The activities are divided into three main phases. Click on each phase to see the detailed steps.

1. Icebreaker: "Hello, My Friend!" Circle

Objective: To energize students, build rapport, and introduce greetings in a fun way.

1. Form a Circle (1 min): Ask all students to stand up and form a large circle. Play cheerful music while they form the circle.
2. Teacher Initiates (2 min): Teacher makes eye contact with the student next to them, smiles, says "Hello, [Student's Name]!", and gently taps their shoulder. Model enthusiasm.
3. Pass the Greeting (5 min): The greeted student turns to the next, makes eye contact, smiles, says "Hello, [Next Student's Name]!", and taps their shoulder. Guide hesitant students.
4. Introduce Variations (2 min): Once "Hello!" has gone around, introduce "Good morning!" or "Hi!". Repeat the circle activity with these new phrases.
5. Mindful Moment (1 min): After the activity, ask students how they felt saying "hello" and being greeted. Emphasize connection.

• Ensure every child gets a turn and feels included.
• Encourage genuine smiles and eye contact.
• Keep the pace lively to maintain energy.

2. Game: "Musical Greetings"

Objective: To practice expressions through movement and interaction.

1. Explain Rules (1 min): "When the music plays, walk or dance. When it stops, find a partner!" Demonstrate.
2. Start Music & Movement (2 min): Play cheerful music. Encourage free movement.
3. Stop Music & Partner Up (1 min): Stop music. Students quickly find a partner.
4. Teacher Instruction & Repeat (5-7 min): Call out an instruction (e.g., "Greet your partner!"). Students say "Hello!" or "Hi!". Repeat with new partners and instructions like "Say goodbye!", "Good morning!" (with mime), "Good afternoon!", "Good night!" (with mime).

• Use varied music to keep it exciting.
• Ensure safety during movement.
• Join in the game yourself to model participation.

1. Introduction of Vocabulary

Objective: To formally introduce and practice pronunciation of key vocabulary.

1. Announce Topic (1 min): "Today, we learn how to say hello and goodbye in English!" Write "Greetings" and "Partings" on the board.
2. Flashcard Presentation (10 min): Show flashcards one by one (Hello, Hi, Good morning, Good afternoon, Good evening, Goodbye, Bye-bye, See you later, Good night). For each:
   • Hold up card, say word clearly.
   • Have students repeat chorally, then individually.
   • Briefly explain context (e.g., "Good morning" is for when the sun rises).
3. Meaningful Connection (2 min): Compare to Indonesian phrases. Ask: "When do you say 'Good morning' at home?".

• Emphasize the 'oo' sound in 'Good' (like 'buku').
• For 'morning', ensure the 'r' sound is soft or silent for some accents.
• Practice the 'bye-bye' with a cheerful, rising intonation.

2. Dialogue Practice & Enrichment

Objective: To enable students to use the phrases in practical conversations.

A: Good morning, B! How are you today?

Student: Goodbye, Teacher! Thank you for the lesson.

Teacher: Goodbye! See you tomorrow.

Student: See you, Teacher! Have a good afternoon!

Teacher: You too! Be careful on your way home.

Dialogue 3: Meeting a Neighbor

Student: Good evening, Mr. Budi!

Mr. Budi: Good evening! How are you?

Student: I'm fine, thank you. Goodbye!

Mr. Budi: Goodbye!

Dialogue 4: Bedtime

Child: Good night, Mom! Good night, Dad!

Mom: Good night, my dear. Sleep well.

Dad: Good night, sweetie. See you in the morning!

Child: See you!

• Emotion & Intonation: Practice saying phrases with different emotions (happy, sleepy, surprised).
• Prop-Based Dialogues: Use toy phone, bag, or book to create realistic scenarios.
• Chain Dialogues: Students greet each other down a line.
• "Who Am I Greeting?" Game: Teacher describes a situation, students give the correct greeting.
• Puppet Show/Finger Family: Use puppets to act out dialogues.
• Greeting/Parting Song or Chant: Teach a simple song to reinforce phrases.
• "Secret Handshake/Greeting": Students create unique gestures for greetings.

3. Worksheet Activity

Objective: To reinforce learning through individual practice.
